NPHL Preview for Saturday, Nov. 22
Fort St. John (3-1-0-0, third) at Spirit River (5-0-0-0, first)
This is the first of four meetings this season. Last year, the road team won four of five games in this series, including FSJ wins of 5-2 and 4-3 in SR (SR won 7-3 at home and 4-3 and 3-2 in FSJ). FSJ has won three of the last four in SR but SR had won three straight before that. With a win, SR could pull to within one game of tieing the second longest win streak to start a season in franchise history. SR won eight straight to start the 2005-06 season and seven straight to start both 1997-98 and 2008-09. A regulation SR win would already put them six points clear of FSJ.
Manning (0-4-0-0, fifth) at Grande Prairie (3-1-0-0, second)
This is the first of four meetings this season. MAN, last year’s Lawrence Cup champs, have lost four straight to start a season but they have a ways to go before setting club records. They lost five straight in 2005-06, seven straight in 1996-97, nine straight in 1993-94 and 11 straight in 2003-04. GP won only meeting last season 5-2 in MAN. MAN has had very little success vs GP in their history. GP has not lost to MAN in 12 years since 2002 and have won nine straight meetings overall. MAN has also not won in GP in 14 years since 2000 and have lost six straight games in the Swan City during that span. In their NPHL history, GP has a fine 14-3 mark vs MAN.
