With four days off following their last game, the Athletics practiced Tuesday night at the Coca Cola Centre prior to Thursday’s big contest against the league leading Spirit River Rangers.
The Athletics enter Thursday nights contest on a mini-roll, having won three straight and outscoring their opponents 18 to 4 throughout that stretch. This, coming off their first loss of the season…to the Spirit River Rangers. The recent success has seen the team move into a second place tie with the Fort St. John Flyers.
Despite the NPHL season being just 5 games old, this weeks home and home series with the Rangers could have serious implications come February. The standings atop the NPHL are airtight with just two points separating first and third but could change if either team manages two wins this week.
Spirit River enters Thursday night’s matchup with all kinds of momentum against the Athletics. Dating back to last season (and combining regular season and playoffs) the Rangers have won 7 straight, 8 if you include exhibition.
Yet, as we’ve seen between both these two clubs, anything can happen.
Thursday nights game takes place in Grande Prairie, starting at 8:30pm.
Saturday night both teams will shift to Spirit River.
