Grande Prairie Athletics (10-1-0) 1st in West vs Dawson Creek Canucks (5-4-0) 4th in West
The Grande Prairie Athletics will wrap up their weeks worth of games when they travel to Dawson Creek tonight to take on the Canucks. It’s unknown at the time of this writing whether mother nature will play a factor in the game getting postponed. Last night three of the four games on the NPHL schedule were cancelled due to the poor winter conditions that have swarmed the Peace Country.
The Big Story:
For the Athletics it will be a simple question of whether or not fatigue will be a factor and what kind of lineup will be iced if and when the game takes place.
Grande Prairie played last night defeating the Hythe Mustangs by a 11 to 5 final and while the score may not indicate a close game it’s still never an easy task to rebound with another game the following night, especially on the road. The flip side of that will be the question of what kind of lineup the A’s will embark with.
For the first time in quite awhile Grande Prairie was short benched on home ice. With a few injuries mounting and other work commitments taking precedence the A’s may find themselves a few less bodies from a full lineup.
Dawson Creek meanwhile will be playing the first of two home games this weekend tonight. The Canucks had only one game last weekend as they defeated the Grimshaw Huskies by a 6 to 2 final. They currently sit 10 points back of Grande Prairie with two games in hand. Just three points separate second to fourth and the Canucks will be looking to gain some ground in the standings with a win tonight.
Both clubs have only met once thus far this season but will play each other twice prior to the Christmas break. Grande Prairie narrowly escaped with a 6 to 4 win last Thursday at the Coke Centre.
One can only expect another close game between both these clubs as it’s been the norm for the duration of the past two or three seasons.
