A’s Score Late To Win In Dawson

Forward Grant Rix proved to be the hero scoring twice in Dawson Creek on Thursday night.

Rix scored with just 38 seconds remaining in the final period to give the A’s a 2 to 1 lead and ultimately a 2 to 0 series lead in their best of seven Western Division Semi-Finals.

The game could have went either way.

With both teams entering a series with a lot of wealth up front, so far it’s been a tightly played defensive contest. Something that shouldn’t surprise come playoff time.

Similar to game one the A’s opened the scoring on Rix’s first goal. As A’s forward Morgan McLean took the puck to the net Rix would manage to bang home a loose puck to give Grande Prairie the first goal of the game at 15:13.

The lead wouldn’t hold up long.

Just over a minute later Dawsons Chris Stevens shot would bounce off a leg and somehow find its way into the back of the net tying the game at one and eventually setting the stage for Rix’s heroics.

A’s Brock Clement would manage to feed a puck up to McLean who made a nice pass to Rix who once more made no mistake finding the back of the net for an Athletics lead with 38 seconds remaining.

Grande Prairie would kill off the remaining time with some large shot blocks in the final few seconds.

The win gives the Athletics an early 2 to 0 series lead.

Game 3 takes place this Saturday back in Grande Prairie.
